Fossil Cheirotherium

zoomable artifact image here

The cheirotherium ("hand beast") prints are most distinct at the far left of this fossil, which also exhibits mud cracks. The first known cheirotherium prints were found in Germany in 1834, just a year before the scientific discovery of fossil footprints in the Connecticut River Valley of western Massachusetts.
