Orra White's Gown

zoomable artifact image here

This gown, with its high waist and narrow skirt, is typical of those worn during the Regency Period (1811-1820), when it was fashionable to copy the clothing seen on female Greek or Roman statues. Orra White Hitchcock wore this gown as a young woman, perhaps when she taught at Deerfield Academy.
