James Deane's Memorial Service, August 4, 1858

In the memorial service held in the Greenfield, Massachusetts, town hall, Dr. James Deane was remembered with an "elegiac ode" written and sung in his honor, and an address by Boston resident Dr. Henry Ingersoll Bowditch. A large crowd attended. Deane tended the health of many people of the town and was admired for his abilities and his modern views on medicine.
